On-Campus Initiatives

Food Recovery NetworkSustainability - Food Recovery Verified

Founded by students in 2015, the Pitzer chapter of the Food Recovery Network collects leftover food from the dining hall twice a week during the school year and donates it to the Pomona Homeless Outreach shelter. In the ’17-’18 school year, FRN volunteers donated over 2,100 pounds of food.

Food Waste Composting

In partnership with Bon Appétit, students, facilities staff, and the City of Claremont, Pitzer dining hall staff collect pre-consumer and post-consumer food waste for composting. The food waste is picked up by the city and transported to a composting facility in Fontana, CA. Since July 2017, Pitzer has collected over 100,000 pounds of food waste for composting.

ReRoom

A student-led initiative that aims to promote a culture of sustainability on campus through the collection and reuse of used items donated by Pitzer College residents at the end of each semester. All proceeds from ReRoom sales go toward supporting student sustainability initiatives.
