Immigration Law Meets Liberal Arts

Immigration attorney and Pitzer Professor Sumangala Bhattacharya’s new course, Immigration Advocacy Clinic: Humanitarian Immigration, gives undergraduate students the rare opportunity to help people who have immigrated to the US with their legal cases. Students mix theory with practice as they put Pitzer’s core value of social responsibility into action by supporting clients while learning how the law, history, and humanity intertwine.

“The history of immigration, current affairs, and law are all brought together to empower students in their education to assist others,” said Aru Warrier ’25, who took the course in the spring and worked with Bhattacharya and two other Pitzer students as an immigration advocacy clinic fellow this summer.
