Program Title: SIT China: Health, Environment, and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Eligibility
Students must be in good standing at Pitzer College. SIT requires students to have a 2.5 or higher GPA. Preference is given to juniors and first semester seniors but sophomores are eligible if space is available.

Preparation
Students are strongly encouraged to take prior coursework in Chinese area studies. Prior Chinese language study is recommended.

Application
Students must first apply through Pitzer’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs. If accepted by Pitzer, students will then be asked to complete the SIT application.

Program Dates
Fall Semester: Early September to mid-December
Spring Semester: Late February to early June

Required Courses
Students are required to take a Chinese language course, the Health, Environment, and Indigenous Knowledge Seminar, and Field Methods and Ethics. During the final month of the program, students may choose to carry out an independent study project or take another Chinese language course.

Intensive Language
All students are required to take one Chinese language course.

Independent Study
Beginning fall semester 2017 students have the option of carrying out an independent study project in Yunnan Province or in another approved location appropriate to the project or an internship.

Credit Possible
Students will receive the equivalent of 4.0 Pitzer course credits for successful completion of the required courses.

Housing Options
Students have two homestays; one in Kunming for three weeks, and a four to five day homestay in the rural farming community of Shaxi. Hostels, educational institutions or small hotels will be utilized at other times during the program.
