Program Title: Pitzer Exchange with Singapore Management University

Eligibility
Students must be in good standing at Pitzer College and have 2.0 or higher GPA. Preference is given to juniors and first semester seniors but sophomores are eligible if space is available.

Preparation
At least one Asian area studies course in literature or film, history, or political studies is strongly recommended. Suggested additional general preparation options include: Comparative Politics; Intercultural Communications; Language Culture and Society; Introduction to International/ Intercultural Studies; Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology; Engaging Difference.

Application
Students must first apply through Pitzer’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs. If accepted by Pitzer, students will then be asked to complete the SMU application.

Program Dates
Fall program: Late August to end of November or early December

Required Courses
Students are required to take a full course load at the University including Introduction to Malay or Chinese language and a course on Singapore. In addition, students take the Pitzer course MLLC110 Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing via Sakai.

Intensive Language
Students are required to take Malay or Chinese language while in SMU.

Course Options
Most undergraduate programs/schools are open to exchange students (except for Business Study Mission undergraduate courses offered by Lee Kong Chian School of Business). Visit the SMU website shown above and select ‘Academic Information’ for course offerings.

Credit Possible
Students are expected to take a course load of four credits at SMU in order to earn four course credits at Pitzer. In addition, students will earn 0.5 Pitzer course credits for the writing course via Sakai. (See above under Required Courses.)

Housing and Board Options
Students live off campus in either a hostel or apartment that they find on their own. SMU suggestions are available at https://www.smu.edu.sg/global/global-programmes/international-exchange/incoming-exchange-students/accommodation. Students receive a room and board allowance from Pitzer.

Advising Notes
Two exchange places in the fall semester only will be available, provided that the semester’s exchange is in balance.
