Eligibility
Students in good standing at Pitzer College. Preference is given to juniors and first semester seniors but sophomores are eligible if space is available.

Preparation
At least one area studies course on Germany/Europe in history, politics, literature, or international relations is required. Previous German language study is highly recommended. Additional recommended preparation: Language, Culture and Society; Intercultural Communications; Introduction to International/ Intercultural Studies; Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology

Program Dates
Full Year: October – July

Required Courses
Participants are expected to take a German language class (if not already advanced) and one course that includes content on German history, politics, literature or culture, and the Pitzer Sakai course Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing.

Language Study
German language courses are available at the elementary, intermediate or advanced level.

Other Course Options
The University offers courses taught in English in literature, philosophy and culture.  Students with high intermediate or advanced German language studies may choose regular university courses taught in German.

Credit Possible
Students must take a course load of 30 ECTS while abroad in order to earn four course credits at Pitzer. In addition, students will earn 0.5 Pitzer course credit for the Sakai course. Please see above under Required Courses.

Housing Options
Students live in student dorms with German students and other international students. A home stay may be arranged if requested in advance.
