International Exchanges – England: Oxford

Program Title: Pitzer Exchange with Sarah Lawrence College in Oxford

Eligibility
The Oxford exchange is highly selective. Participants must be juniors at time of participation and have a minimum GPA of 3.7. Students must demonstrate a consistently high level of academic achievement. Strength in writing is emphasized.

Preparation
At least one European area studies course in literature or film, history, or political studies is strongly recommended. Suggested additional general preparation options include: Comparative Politics; Intercultural Communications; Language Culture and Society; Introduction to International/ Intercultural Studies; Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology.

Application
Students must first apply through Pitzer’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs. If accepted by Pitzer, students will then be asked to complete the Sarah Lawrence College application and any forms required by Oxford University.

Program Dates
Year-long program only: Late September to late June

Required Courses
Students are required to take a full course load, six academic tutorials, during their academic year at Oxford. In addition, students may be required to take the Pitzer course MLLC 110 Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing via Sakai if course selections do not include sufficient intercultural course content.

Credit possible
Students participate in two 5-credit tutorials in of the three terms in the academic year for a total of 30 credits to receive the equivalent of eight Pitzer course credits. Students required to take the Pitzer writing course via Sakai will receive an additional 0.5 Pitzer course credits. (See above under Required Courses.)

Housing and Board Options
Students are housed in flats in Merifield, Wadham College student housing. Students may choose to prepare meals in their flats and/or take meals on campus.

Additional Notes
Competitive application. Only two Pitzer students may be accepted each year. Students should have an alternate program given the competitive nature of the Oxford exchange.
