Eligibility
Students must be in good standing at Pitzer College with a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Preference is given to juniors and first semester seniors but qualified sophomores are eligible if space is available.

Preparation
At least one German language course is highly recommended. Additional preparation: Language, Culture and Society; Intercultural Communications; Introduction to International/ Intercultural Studies; Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology.

Application
Students must first apply through Pitzer’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs. If accepted by Pitzer, students will then be asked to complete the Leuphana application.

Program Dates
Fall: Not available
Full year: October to Late July
Spring semester: April to Late July
Required Language and Orientation program: 4 weeks prior to the semester start date

Required Courses
Pitzer students are expected to take a full course load including a German language course and at least one course with content on German history, politics, literature or culture. In addition, students will take the Pitzer course MLLC110 Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing via Sakai.

Intensive Language
Pitzer students will be required to participate in a 4-week language and orientation program before the start of the semester and a German course during the semester. Semester-long German language courses are available at all levels except elementary level (A1).

Course Options in English
Leuphana offers courses in Digital Media, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, and International Business Administration and Entrepreneurship.  For information on module selection, https://www.leuphana.de/en/services/io/incomings/exchange/planning-your-studies.html. Module selection is finalized during the orientation program upon consultation with the academic advisor at Leuphana.

Credit Possible
Pitzer students are required to take 30 ECTS credits in order to earn 4 Pitzer course credits. Standard credit per Leuphana module is 5 ECTS. Pitzer students will earn an additional 0.5 credits for the Sakai writing course (see above under Required Courses).

Housing and Board Options
Leuphana will hold a number of rooms in student residences. Reservations for these rooms are based on preference and on a first come first serve basis. If a room is not available, Leuphana will assist students in finding private accommodation. Pitzer will provide a housing allowance to cover the semester accommodation fees. Pitzer students will also receive a meal allowance to cover meals at Leuphana’s cafeteria.

Additional Notes
Leuphana has a student population of just under 10,000. The university offers intensive student support, providing tutorials, workshops and information sessions as well optional field trips and theatre visits. The university also offers a Buddy Programme where international students can receive individual support. A “buddy” is available upon request.
