International Exchanges – England: Sarah Lawrence College London Programs with BADA

Program Title: Pitzer Exchange with Sarah Lawrence College London Programs in Partnership with the British American Drama Academy (BADA)

Eligibility
Applicants must be in good standing at Pitzer and have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. There are two program options in London through SLC’s partnership with BADA. Students may pursue either a conservatory theatre training program within the London Theatre Program or an academic semester studying Shakespeare’s work through the Shakespeare in London Program (offered in the Spring only). Both programs are open to juniors and seniors. Applicants for the London Theatre Program are required to audition. Please visit the host website for more information.

Application
Students must first apply through Pitzer’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs. If accepted by Pitzer, students will then be asked to complete the Sarah Lawrence College application. Applicants are required to audition in person or by video with Sarah Lawrence if pursuing the London Theatre Program.

Program Dates
Fall: Early September to mid-December (The Shakespeare in London Program only runs in the spring)
Spring: Beginning of January to mid-April
Full Year (Advanced Program): Early September to mid-April

Required Courses for the London Theatre Program
Fall and spring semester students take the following courses: Scene Study: Shakespeare (2 credits); Scene Study: High Comedy (2 credits); Scene Study: Modern Physical Theater (2 credits); Performance Techniques: Voice (1 credit), Movement (1 credit), Stage Fighting (1 credit); Acting in Performance (3 credits), Dramatic Criticism (1 credit); and Theatre History (2 credits).  In addition, Pitzer students are required to take MLLC110, Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing (0.5 credits) via Sakai.

Required Courses for the Shakespeare in London Program 
All students are required to take Shakespeare’s Plays (5 credits), Culture & Society 1580-1612 (2 credits), English Politics 1580-1612 (2 credits), Writing about Theatre (2 credits), Acting Shakespeare (2 credits), Space and Place in Shakespearean Production (2 credits), and attend weekly guest lectures. In addition, Pitzer students are required to take MLLC110, Intercultural Learning: Portfolio Writing (0.5 credits) via Sakai. 

Credit Possible
Students must take a minimum of 15 Sarah Lawrence credits in order earn the equivalent of four Pitzer course credits. In addition, students will earn 0.5 Pitzer course credits for the writing course via Sakai. (See above under Required Courses.)

Housing and Board Options
Students are housed in modern accommodations in one of two locations in the heart of London. Both locations have easy access to public transportation. Accommodations have fully-equipped kitchens, and students are expected to cook for themselves. Pitzer will provide a meal allowance.
