About the Mentor Program

All incoming students are assigned a New Student Mentor: enthusiastic sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have experienced Pitzer and all it has to offer, and want to help ease the transition to college life. First-year students live on the same floor as the other students in their mentor group along with their mentor. Mentors plan substance-free first-year programs, help their mentees pick their classes, deal with the college academic load, navigate the social scene, and make healthy choices in their lives.

New Student Mentor Job Description

  • Individual Interview Presentation Instructions

New Student Mentor (new & returning candidates): Personal Expression Piece
In addition to being asked questions for the interviewers to get a sense of your interest in the Mentor position and qualification, there will be also be an opportunity for you to share a Personal Expression Piece with the interviewers. The personal expression piece should tell us something about you. It can be a quote, collage, photograph, paining, poem, song, or anything showing some initiative and creativity that will help the interviewers learn something about you. You will not be judged on the quality of piece, but you will have an opportunity to explain it in the interview. Please be able to articulate what your personal expression piece is and why you chose it.

Lead New Student Mentor: Training Presentation
During your interview you will present for 5 minutes on a topic you are interested in presenting to new and returning Mentors at next year’s fall training. Please select a topic that was not sufficiently covered or may have been completely missing from this year’s fall Mentor training. Props, visual aids and handouts are highly encouraged.
