Meal Periods

  • There are 3 meal periods on weekdays (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
  • There are 2 meal periods on weekends (brunch and dinner).
  • There are a total of 19 meal periods per week.
  • Meals you did not use will not carry over to the next week.
  • Your weekly meal allowance resets each Sunday.

Meal Plan FAQs

When does my meal plan start and end?

  • Your meal plan typically activates at brunch on Returning Student Move-In Day (Spring and Fall semesters).
  • Your meal plan ends at dinner the day before residence halls close (Winter and Summer break).

Can I change my meal plan?

  • Decreases to your meal plan can be requested until two weeks prior to the first day of classes each semester.
  • You can increase your meal plan at any time. Your costs will be prorated to the written request date.
  • To make changes to your meal plan, contact [email protected].

What are Flex Dollars?

  • Flex Dollars (aka “Board Plus”) can be used for additional meals and snacks at any of the Claremont Colleges dining halls and eateries.
  • Flex Dollars are inlcuded with the 19, 16, 14, and 12 meal plans. The 5 meal plan does not include Flex Dollars.
  • Additional Flex Dollars cannot be purchased. You can use Claremont Cash if you run out of Flex Dollars.

What is Claremont Cash?

  • Claremont Cash is a monetary credit applied to your student ID card.
  • You can use Claremont Cash for laundry, vending machines, extra dining hall meals, food and non-food items throughout the Claremont Colleges, and select merchants in the Claremont Village.

What if I have special dietary needs?

  • The dining hall has vegetarian and vegan options for each meal.
  • If you are on a special diet, need a higher caloric meal, or have specific food allergies, you are encouraged to indicate this on your Housing Application. This information is provided to the Dining Hall.
  • If you require specialized dietary planning, contact Pitzer’s Dining Manager, Miguel Menjivar, to discuss meal accommodations. 

How do I apply for a Reduced Meal Plan?

  • You may request a lower plan due to financial or medical accommodation by requesting an application from [email protected].
  • If you are applying for a reduced meal plan status due to a medical or financial consideration, you must provide documentation stating why you are unable to be on the minimum meal plan.
  • Applications will be reviewed in consultation between the Dining Manager and/or Case Manager to evaluate if Dining Services can formulate a meal plan that meets your dietary needs. If we are unable to meet your dietary needs, Residence Life will be informed of the approval and update the meal plan.

How do I use my reusable green box/clamshell?

  • You are given one green box/clamshall each academic year to take meals to-go.
  • Pick up your green box at a dining location and swipe your ID card to check it out.
  • You may return your dirty green box and pick-up a fresh one for use at any dining hall location.
  • You may also simply return a dirty green box and deposit it back to your account to use another day.

I lost my resuable green box/clamshell. Can I get another one?

You can purchase another reusable clamshell box and other resuable and to-go containers at the dining hall. Prices are as follows:

  • To-Go Clamshell: $0.75
  • To-Go Cup: $0.50
  • Reusable To-Go Clamshell Box: $6.50
  • Reusable To-Go Cup: $3.50

McConnell Bistro

McConnell Bistro, located in McConnell Center, is the main dining hall on campus.

The Shakedown Café is a student-run, organic eatery located on the second floor of the Gold Student Center (GSC).

The Grove House

The Grove House is a craftsman-style home that serves as a restaurant and student center.

The Grove House Kitchen is a student-run restaurant serving delicious homemade dishes made from locally grown food and also caters community events.
