Dear Pitzer Community,

Today, the United States Supreme Court rejected the Trump Administration’s attempt to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in a 5-4 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts. This decision is a victory for social justice and comes as a tremendous relief for the Dreamers who have made the United States their home. Some 700,000 people have availed themselves of the benefits of the DACA program since its creation in 2012. The decision to shield DACA from political overreach represents a compelling social achievement in a time of political polarization.

Pitzer College has been a Sanctuary College since 2016 and is excited to continue its support of the DACA program. While there remains much work to be done, we should all be encouraged by today’s decision and rededicate ourselves to advancing the rights of our immigrant community members.

Provida Futuri,

Melvin L. OIiver
