Dear Pitzer Community,
It is with sadness that I notify
you of the passing of former Pitzer faculty member, vice president and acting
president, James B. Jamieson, on September 18, 2019. He was 88 years old.
Dr. Jamieson joined the Pitzer
College faculty in 1967-68 and held multiple positions at the college,
including Vice President of Advancement (1973-83) and Acting President
(1978-79) during the presidential search and transition from President Robert
H. Atwell to President Frank L. Ellsworth. Below please find the obituary,
published in the San Luis Obispo County Tribune, which includes details of a
celebration of life planned for November 2, 2019.
Jamieson is survived by his wife,
Perry, his two sons, Jeff and Dalton, two grandsons, four step-granddaughters
and several nieces and nephews. I know you join me in sending our deepest
condolences to his family and friends. The Office of the President will also
send condolences to the Jamieson family on behalf of the Pitzer College
community.
