Dear Pitzer Community,

Each spring, it gives me great pleasure to share news about the fellowships, grants, and other awards Pitzer students and recent graduates have earned during the academic year. Once again, our students and alumni have accomplished extraordinary things in extraordinary times.

So far, 12 students and alumni have received Fulbright grants. Two of our seniors—including an inaugural member of our Inside-Out Pathway-to-BA program—won both a Fulbright and a Napier Award for Creative Leadership. The array of awards this year ranges from Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowships and Critical Language Scholarships to the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship and Projects for Peace Award. From first-year students to graduating seniors, every class is represented among our awardees. Please visit our website to learn more about these remarkable students and their work.

In addition, I would like to recognize Sandy Hamilton in the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships and thank the faculty, staff, Writing Center fellows, and all those who advise and support our students as they complete rigorous, time-consuming applications.

I also want to take this opportunity to say to all our students how proud Pitzer is of your academic accomplishments, your creativity, and the way you have met the unique challenges of this year. Every day, you inspire great admiration and gratitude across campus.

Please join me in congratulating our innovative, astounding students. Suzanne and I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday as we celebrate our graduating seniors at our Class of 2022 Commencement.

Provida Futuri,

Melvin L. Oliver President
