Dear Pitzer Community,

We hope all is well and you are staying healthy as the first week of the semester comes to a close. It is invigorating to be back on campus together again – the way the Pitzer experience was intended.

As the pandemic continues and remains top of mind for us all, we wanted to remind you about the new Pitzer College COVID-19 Dashboard that was developed to help monitor Covid positivity rates at the College. The dashboard tracks daily testing results for Pitzer students and employees and provides weekly totals that will be updated on an ongoing basis until further notice.

Many thanks to the staff working behind the scenes who created this tool and those who will be regularly updating it and our Pitzer Pathway Forward site so we can all be well informed. Please visit Pathway Forward often for the latest news and resources to help keep our campus community safe.

It is heartening to see such low positivity rates within our campus community at this time. This is a testament to our collective commitment to being Mindful of Each Other and our core value of social responsibility. Our COVID-19 Task Force, comprised of faculty, staff, and student leaders, deserves recognition for the important and often selfless work they have done for more than a year. We are grateful for their insight and efforts, particularly of late, as we have been successfully and safely returning to campus and in-person instruction.

Thankfully, there is more than Covid to report on at this time. If you missed the virtual convocation ceremony on Monday, don’t worry, you can view it here: Pitzer’s 2021 Convocation Ceremony.

Finally, as we navigate the challenges of returning to campus in the midst of an ongoing global health crisis, please take a moment to breathe and reflect on the primary reason we are here together at Pitzer College – to produce engaged, socially responsible citizens of the world. It was less than two weeks ago that we welcomed two classes of these future citizens and their families to our beloved campus.

Best wishes for an enjoyable, productive, and safe semester.

Sincerely,

Melvin L. Oliver, President
