Friday Nurse Notes on Monday

March 28, 2022

In brief:

  • Pitzer’s policy on indoor masking remains unchanged
  • Everyone on campus regardless of vaccination status must wear a mask indoors
  • N95 masks are available for free in the Student Affairs office, Facilities, and the nurse clinic

Dear Community,

Masking mandates and expectations continue to change across the Claremont Colleges campus, county, state, and nation. This email reminds the community of Pitzer’s masking policy, reiterates the importance of self-protection with N95 masks and provides information from the FDA regarding recalled antigen tests.

Indoor Masking Policy

Our sister campus, CMC, has changed its policy regarding indoor masking. On the CMC campus, indoor masks are no longer required, except for inside classrooms. This is a reminder that Pitzer is not changing its policy at this time. On the Pitzer College campus, all individuals on campus, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a face-covering/mask while indoors.

As masking mandates continue to change throughout California, it’s important to remember the efficacy of N95 masks. If you ever feel uncomfortable about the level of those masked around you, you may wear an N95 mask:

  • When worn consistently and properly, surgical-grade masks, such as N95s provide the highest level of protection from particles, including the virus that causes COVID-19
  • N95s are effective in protecting yourself from particles, even when others around you are not wearing face coverings
  • N95 masks are available for free in the Student Affairs office, Facilities, and the nurse clinic

New FDA Information

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued recalls for specific lot numbers of the Celltrion DiaTrust™ COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test. If you have these rapid tests, please take a moment to check the lot number to confirm your test is accurate.

See below the isolation summary as of Monday 03/28/2022 (this number may vary from the COVID dashboard, pending dashboard daily updates; I will send an update on Friday as well)
