Frequently Asked Questions

Attendees in a colaborative classroom at family weekend 2017

When is Family Weekend?
Friday, February 14, through Monday, February 17, 2020.

Where does Family Weekend take place?
All our Family Weekend events are held on Pitzer’s campus. However, in January, we will also provide a list of activities taking place at one of the other Claremont Colleges. Click here for a complete map of the Claremont Colleges (the 5Cs).

What is the last day to register for Family Weekend?
Online registration for Family Weekend closes on Friday, February 7.

Should I attend every scheduled activity?
You may attend as many or as few events as you wish. The schedule has been designed to give you an overview of Pitzer College and connect you with fellow Pitzer parents while leaving you plenty of time to see your student.

I want to go to class with my student on Monday, February 17—what arrangements do I need to make?
None! Your Family Weekend registration package will include a schedule of the classes offered on Monday. You may attend your student’s class or any other class that interests you on Pitzer’s campus (class visits don’t extend to the other 5Cs). Professors may limit the number of visitors in a given class. We hope you learn something new!

Is my student welcome to attend all of the programs for Family Weekend?
Of course—your student is welcome at all Family Weekend events!

How about siblings and other family members?
Although we don’t provide specific programming for siblings or other family members, the weekend’s activities should be fun for all.

My student is performing or participating in sports that weekend. Where do I find the schedule?
A complete listing of 5C activities scheduled during Family Weekend will be provided in mid-January. For the Pomona-Pitzer Athletics schedule, please visit www.sagehens.com.

What should I wear for the weekend?
All events during Family Weekend (except the membership-only Pitzer Society dinner) are casual, so feel free to dress in comfortable clothing. In February, highs in Claremont are typically in the 70s and 80s and evening lows are usually in the 50s—but check the weather before you come!

Where should I stay?
There are a number of options, both in Claremont and by the Ontario International Airport. FMI—and to book early—please visit: https://www.pitzer.edu/admission/visiting-campus/hotels-and-lodging/

I am the parent of a Pitzer sophomore, junior, or senior and have attended Family Weekend before. Is there something new for me?
Absolutely! All parents are sure to find unique faculty talks and panel discussions—plus, Pitzer students change every year they’re here. Family Weekend is a great chance to meet your student’s new favorite professor or find out about programs tailored to help them explore a new interest.

Does Pitzer College meet ADA wheelchair-accessibility requirements?
Yes, all campus facilities meet ADA requirements. For questions about wheelchair accessibility or to make special arrangements, please contact the Office of Parent Relations at engagement@pitzer.edu.
