Family Orientation and Move-in Day 2023

8 a.m.–Noon 

Registration and Letter to Your Student
Multipurpose Room, Gold Student Health & Wellness Center
Pick up your family information packet and lunch ticket, grab a snack, and help your student move in. Don’t forget to dress comfortably, it can get hot!

*Make sure to stop by before noon for your lunch ticket.

*Registration will close in the Multipurpose Room at noon and will re-open in the McConnell Center Living Room at 1 p.m.

8 a.m.–5 p.m. 

Family and Friends Lounge, Pitzer Store, and Letter to Your Student
Living Room, McConnell Center
For those “in-between” times, the Family Lounge is a great space to rest in this air-conditioning, chat with fellow family members and ambassadors, purchase Pitzer merchandise, and more! Be sure to participate in Letter to Your Student, a time-honored tradition of family members writing heartfelt notes to their students as they embark on this new journey. Letters will be delivered within the first few weeks of classes. 

10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

New Student Gift from Alumni Association
Atrium, George C.S. Benson Auditorium
After you’ve unloaded your student’s belongings into their new living space, visit the Benson Auditorium Atrium with your student to receive their welcome gift from the Alumni Association. Inside is a special note from a Class of 2023 graduate with sage(hen) advice on how to engage fully into Pitzer as well as a special well from Alumni Board President Mark Cunningham ’89 P’25. 

Noon–1:30 p.m.

Family Welcome Lunch
Dining Hall, McConnell Center
Enjoy a meal from one of the nation’s top-ranked college dining halls while listening to presentations by President Strom Thacker and senior administrators. Seating inside the dining hall is limited. Please arrive on time to avoid interrupting the official program.

*Overflow seating will be available upstairs in the Founders Room once maximum capacity is reached.

1:45–3:15 p.m.

Insights to Life at Pitzer Session
George C.S. Benson Auditorium
Hear from campus partners such as Academic Advising, Pitzer’s Academic Support Services (PASS), Strive2Thrive, Study Abroad, Career Services, Community Engagement Center (CEC), Residence Life, The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS), and Q&A.

FirstGen Family Reception
Performance Space, Broad Center
Students and families are invited to attend this session to learn about Pitzer’s FirstGen program, which supports students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year college. 

3:30–5 p.m.

Resource Fair
Multipurpose Room, Gold Student Health & Wellness Center
Do you have questions swirling after the family info sessions? Visit the Pitzer Resources Fair and learn more about services and programs available for your student at Pitzer and The Claremont Colleges Services.

4–4:45 p.m.

Athletics Information Session
Gym, CARW
This session will provide opportunities to meet athletic administrators and other members of the Sagehen community. You will have the chance to ask questions about your student-athlete’s experience and learn ways to best support their success on and off the field. 

*Transportation will be provided at 3:30 p.m. Meet at Broad Center West Patio.

4:45–6 p.m.

Community Dinner
Dining Hall, McConnell Center
Toward the end of the day, students and families will come back together for a Community Dinner.

*Overflow seating will be available upstairs in the Founders Room once maximum capacity is reached.

6:308 p.m.

Cheers and Tears Reception

Your student is off to their first night at Pitzer College—now what? Please join President Strom Thacker, Isabelle Thacker, and Pitzer parent volunteers in celebrating this momentous occasion.


Family Orientation registration is complimentary for your family’s first four (4) members (no need to register your incoming student—we’re already planning for them!). Each additional family member (beyond the first four) will cost $40 per person. Registration includes all programming, two full meals, and various receptions during the day.
