W.M. Keck Science Department Professor Coauthors Chemistry Textbook

Claremont, Calif. (February 15, 2012) - Associate Professor of Chemistry Kathleen Purvis-Roberts has coauthored Chemistry of the Environment, 3rd Edition with Thomas G. Spiro and William M. Stigliani.

The textbook was published by University Science Books . Purvis-Roberts teaches chemistry at Pitzer College's W.M. Keck Science Department.

Chemistry of the Environment explores today's environmental issues and the science one needs to understand them. The textbook delves into themes of sustainability, atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biospheres while stressing the interconnectedness of environmental problems and solutions.

Harry Gray, professor of chemistry at California Institute of Technology, calls Chemistry of the Environment "the environmental chemistry book that we have all been waiting for."

"Spiro, Purvis-Roberts and Stigliani write in a clear and engaging style," Gray said. "They organize the material in a logical and compelling manner, emphasizing the many cross-connections among environmental topics."

The W.M. Keck Science Department is a program of Claremont McKenna College, Pitzer College and Scripps College.
