Sagehen Round Up for the Week for January 2

Claremont, Calif. (January 9, 2012) -- The Sagehen Women's Basketball team picked up its second win of the season on New Year's Eve, a 76-65 home win over Transylvania. Emi Hashizume '14 scored 19 points and Ruthie Shapiro '15 added 13 to help the Sagehens rally from an early 12-point deficit to pull away for the win. Hashizume currently ranks second on the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game, while Shapiro leads the team in both assists (25) and steals (27). Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action for two home games this week, taking on Occidental on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Caltech on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Vincent Giannotti '12 helped the Men's Swimming team to a win over Lewis & Clark on Friday by coming in first place in the 500-yard freestyle and swimming the anchor leg for the victorious 200-yard medley relay team. Andrew Savage '15 helped the Sagehens pick up key points in a narrow 117-110 SCIAC road win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday, finishing third in the 100-yard freestyle. Savage also contributed to a 200-yard freestyle relay win on Friday against Lewis & Clark.

On the women's side, diver Avery Barron '15 contributed seven points to a narrow 122-117 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday with a third-place finish in the one-meter and a second-place finish in the three-meter. Both swimming and diving teams will be in action at home this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for another SCIAC meet against Redlands.

The Men's Basketball team, and forward Po Grant '13 (4.4 points per game), will travel to Redlands on Wednesday before returning home to face Caltech on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
