Pitzer College Students Publish Journal of Psychology

Claremont, Calif. (November 10, 2011) — Pitzer College students Danny Feinberg '13, Jerzy Kaufmann '12, Holly Kempler '13, Jordan Myint '13, Mariana Schmalstig '10 and Emily Souder '13 publish Encephalon: The Pitzer College Student Journal of Psychology.

Encephalon is a student-run undergraduate psychology journal that includes student writings, student art and faculty interviews. The journal's principle purpose is to bring attention to the outstanding, undergraduate psychological work that has been cultivated at Pitzer College.

The inaugural issue includes alumni and student papers from Allison Backman '11, Joanna Hong '13, Mariana Schmalstig '10, Abbie Spear '11 and Aimee Zisner '10. It features student art from James Cathey '12 and Anne Marie Tse '11 along with interviews with Professors Mita Banerjee, Thomas Borowski, Halford Fairchild and David Moore, who also serves as the publication's faculty advisor.

Student articles include, A Critical Analysis of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Western Culture by Backman, Three Interviews Exploring the Asian American Experience by Hong, Guiding Latino High School Students to College through Informational Resources and Parental Involvement by Schmalstig, The Impact of Parental and Peer Cigarette Smoking on Attitudes Towards Smoking Cigarettes by Spear and Investigating Creative Ability Through Cognitive Neuroscience by Zisner.

The full print edition of the first volume is available free of charge and can be found around the campus in the small psychology library in Broad Hall 116, the Marquis Library and the McConnell Dining Hall Lobby.
