Pitzer student-athletes once again had key roles this week, particularly in a 5-1 women's soccer win over Whittier on Saturday, which enabled the Sagehens to tie for second in the final regular season standings and pick up their tenth win of the season, as Pitzer players combined for four goals and four assists.
Traci Lopez '12 and Rachel Eckerlin '12 were both honored pregame for Senior Day as part of their final regular season home game, and Lopez had a goal and an assist to stake the Sagehens to a 2-0 halftime lead. Lilli Barrett-O'Keefe '14 then scored the first two goals of her collegiate career one minute apart in the second half, with the first one assisted by Sam Thompson '15 and the second one assisted by Dana Christensen '15. Erin Edmonds '14 also added a goal and an assist for the Sagehens in the win. The Sagehens will open the SCIAC Tournament at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday.

Tannous and starting offensive lineman Tim Stapenhorst '12 will be honored for their Senior Day this weekend when the Sagehens host La Verne at 7 p.m. Stapenhorst has been part of an offensive line that has paved the way for Luke Sweeney (Pomona '13) to lead the nation in rushing, including 246 yards at Whittier on Saturday.

Austin Strong '15, who usually plays goalie, also got the chance to play an attacking role this week and had two goals in a 19-12 win over Caltech. The two wins helped the Sagehens improve to 4-1 in the SCIAC, putting it in a four way tie for first place, heading into its final two conference home matches – against Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and against Cal Lutheran on Saturday at 11 a.m.
