Pitzer College Awarded a California Campus Compact Grant

Claremont, Calif. (July 13, 2011) — Pitzer College was awarded a California Campus Compact's Social Innovation Generation: Student Leadership Initiative Grant in support of its Social Innovation Project, a Community Engagement Center program.

The Social Innovation Project is a comprehensive group of projects and activities established to create a Native "pipeline" to higher education that promotes minority college matriculation and success. Pitzer students are given opportunities to sustain important relationships with Tribal Nations, expand alliances and interaction with local Native American youth, create new programming, participate in teambuilding, plan events, facilitate agendas, learn intercultural skills, exercise leadership abilities and assist in public education.

California Campus Compact is a coalition of leading colleges and universities that works to build the collective commitment and capacity of colleges, universities and communities throughout California to advance civic and community engagement for a healthy, just and democratic society.
