Pitzer College Alumna Honored by American Sociological Association
Claremont, Calif. (December 7, 2010) — Judith Jennings Treas, PhD '69 was recognized by the American Sociological Association with the 2010 Matilda White Riley Award for career achievement. Treas is a professor of sociology and director of the Center for Demographic and Social Analysis at the University California, Irvine. She majored in sociology while at Pitzer College.
Treas's research in inequality, gender, family, aging and the life course is represented in nearly 100 published articles, chapters and books. Her latest book, co-edited with Sonja Drobnic, is Dividing the Domestic: Men, Women and Household Work in Cross-National Perspective was published by Stanford University Press in 2010.
The Matilda White Riley Award honors a scholar in the field of aging and the life course who has shown exceptional achievement in research, theory, policy analysis, or who has otherwise advanced knowledge of aging and the life course. Letters of nomination should describe the nominee's contributions to the study of aging and the life course that warrant consideration.
