Pitzer College Announces 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Claremont, Calif.(May 11, 2009) — Pitzer College congratulates Nancy Judd '90, recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. Judd will be presented the award dinner on Saturday, May 30 at McConnell Dinning Room from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The award is part of Pitzer's Alumni Weekend.

Judd is the principle of Recycle Runway, a company that strives to change the way the world thinks about the environment through innovative educational programs and couture fashions made from trash. The company partners with businesses, non-profits, governmental agencies, foundations and individuals to actively support environmental conservation. In 2008, Judd created the Obama Campaign Collection made entirely of historic campaign materials that were transformed into elegant garments. Judd brought the Collection to the inauguration and showcased it at the Green Inaugural Ball in Washington DC.

Judd's career in recycling, art and environmental education began during her time at Pitzer College, where she received her BA in art and sociology. After graduation, Judd proposed a campus-wide recycling program for the College, thus kicking off a 19 year career in recycling.

Judd will be exhibiting six of her couture fashions at Pitzer College's Nichols Gallery on Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

"We're thrilled to honor Nancy for all her work in environmental conservation," said President Laura Skandera Trombley, "She shows us that everyday trash can be transformed into a beautiful piece of art."
