Mail Delivery Services

USPS (United Postal Services)

Mail Delivery
USPS delivers mail between 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. After the mail is delivered, it may take the Mail Center anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to sort and distribute the mail, depending on the amount and the time of year.

Having your mail box number on the mail piece speeds up sorting and distribution time. Please keep in mind that if the box number is not on the mail piece, that mail is the last mail to be processed and may even take an additional day.

When a student receives a piece of mail too large for the mail box a “package slip” will be placed in the students’ box. The only time a student will be called is if they receive flowers or a perishable package.

Outgoing USPS
Outgoing mail is picked up at the same time mail is dropped off and again in the afternoon; anywhere from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. Any mail dropped off after the last pick up will not be mailed until the next business day. The Pitzer mail room is NOT a post office, we can not postmark or round date your mail.

If you have a letter that needs special handling, it needs to be taken to a USPS post office. The nearest post office is located at 140 N. Harvard in the Claremont Village. Express mail must be at the Claremont post office no later then 3:15 to guarantee overnight service.

UPS (United Parcel Service)

UPS arrives once a day. There is no set time when they arrive and depends on the time of year and the size of the load. The Mail Center also has a scheduled daily pick up and students are able to use this pick up service. If you would like to ship via UPS go online and process a shipping label, then bring the package to the mail room ready to go by 1:00 p.m.

Federal Express

There are three different types of Federal Express services: Overnight, Ground, and Home delivery.

Federal Express Overnight

Federal Express Overnight has several different delivery times depending on the service type.

  • First Overnight: guaranteed by 8:00 am in the morning. This service will not benefit the students, due to the fact that the mailroom does not open until 8:00. This delivery is brought back at the 10:30 delivery.
  • Priority Overnight: guaranteed delivery by 10:30 am
  • Standard Overnight: guaranteed delivery by 3:30 pm

If a student would like to ship out through Federal Express and does not have a Federal Express account number, the Mail Center has blank forms that can be used to charge a credit card. Federal Express Overnight has a 3:45 p.m. scheduled pick up time. Anything that needs to be shipped by this service has to be in the Mail Center and ready to be shipped by 3:45 p.m. Federal Express is on a timed route and cannot wait for a label to be processed.

Federal Express Ground

This service is for ground services. Packages can take up to a week to be delivered. This service is faster then UPS standard deliveries, but is not a next day service.

Federal Express Home

This service is the slowest service offered by Federal Express. There is not a delivery time given.

To ship packages through Federal Express Ground and Home delivery, a pick up must be scheduled. The package must be in the Mail Center and ready to be shipped at the time the pick up is scheduled.
