Faculty and Staff Mailroom Procedures

USPS (United Postal Services)

The Mail Center strives to provide high-quality customer services and fast and efficient mail delivery. We are located on the first floor of Atherton Hall. The Mail Center works under the direct supervision of the Office of Human Resources.

If you have any mail service inquiries email [email protected] or call 909.607.3827.

USPS (United States Postal Services)
If you have mail to post, please allow plenty of time for it to be processed. The mail is outsourced through the intercampus mail service, which will increase processing time. Please bring any mail that needs to be sent out to the Mail Center in Atherton Hall. Please do not leave mail in the Bernard Hall mail room.

Any mail requiring special handling needs to be brought to the Mail Center and handed to a staff member with instructions. Please do not leave mail needing special handling in the Bernard or Atherton Hall mail slots.

Preparing Mailings

Format for Mailing Address

Your Name
Pitzer College
1050 N. Mills
Claremont, CA 91711

Addressing Your Envelope
Whenever possible, please type your address or be sure to print clearly; the post office machinery must be able to read the address. Your return address is VERY important. The return address is used for billing purposes. Pitzer College is not sufficient; the department name and/or the name of the sender if applicable. It is also helpful if the envelope is returned to be able to return it to the individual sending the letter.

Non-Pitzer Related Mail
Charging personal correspondence to Pitzer accounts is not permitted. Any questionable mail will be sent back.

Personal Mail
The Mail Center is not responsible for mail addressed to family or friends. We cannot be expected to know all of your family members’ names. Please do not have mail for family or friends sent to the mail center.

Scott Hall Mail Slot
Due to the ever-changing mail services, mail is not delivered daily. Dropping outgoing mail in the Scott Hall mail slot will not be handled on any regular basis. For quicker service mail can be picked up at the Atherton mail center.

Larger Outgoing mailings
Please contact intercampus Mail Services at extension 73133 or 77484 or by emailing them at [email protected]

Mail Delivery
USPS delivers mail between 12 and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. It may take the mail center anywhere between 1 and 3 hours to sort the mail, depending on the time of year and mail flow. Due to the large number of packages being delivered, letter mail is sorted last.

UPS (United Parcel Services)
UPS arrives once a day. There is no set time and depends on the time of year and the size of the load. The Mail Center also has a daily pick-up. Packages must be packaged and addressed before being brought to the Mail Center. To guarantee for a package to be sent out on the same day, it needs to be in the mail center no later than 10 a.m.

Federal Express
The Mail Center supports three different types of Federal Express Services: Overnight, Ground, and Home Delivery.

Federal Express Overnight
Federal Express Overnight services have several different times depending on the service type needed.

  • FIRST OVERNIGHT: guaranteed delivery by 8:00 am.
  • PRIORITY OVERNIGHT: guaranteed delivery by 10:30 am.
  • STANDARD OVERNIGHT: guaranteed delivery by 3:30 pm.

Federal Express Ground:
This is for ground services. Packages can take up to a week to ten days to deliver. Packages shipped through the Mail Center through this service do not go out the same day.

Federal Express Home:
This service is the slowest of all federal express services. There is not a delivery time given. Packages going out through this service do not go out the same day.

Any boxes sent to Pitzer should be addressed as follows:
