Nigel Boyle, Ph.D.
Nigel Boyle is the Associate Dean for Global and Local Programs, Director of the Institute for Global Local Action and Study (IGLAS), and he holds the IGLAS Chair in Political Studies.
Nigel has been a professor at Pitzer since 1992, including a term as Dean of Faculty 2015-19. He was a Fulbright Global Scholar in 2019-20 (in Vietnam, Pakistan and Germany – foreshortened by the covid crisis). He has been Pitzer’s Fulbright advisor for most of the last 20 years. Nigel is the architect of the Claremont colleges‘ Justice Education initiative, including the largest concentration of “inside out” courses (incarcerated and outside students taught in the same classes) in the US.
As founding Director of the Institute for Global Local Action and Study, Nigel has worked to integrate Pitzer’s renowned study abroad and community engagement programs to help students address Pitzer’s four core educational requirements: local and global intercultural understanding, and social justice theory and practice.
