Since December 7th 2022, the South American country of Peru has been gripped by a popular Andean-based uprising. What originally started as a call to release now former president Pedro Castillo, has evolved into a massive movement calling for the restructuring of society. Despite violent State repression that has lead to more than 60 deaths, the people continue to mobilize.
Join visiting Critical Global Studies Professor George Ygarza, Human Rights organizers and community leaders as they discuss the historical roots of this rebellion while bringing State violence into focus.
