We invite faculty, staff, returning and incoming students, alumni and families to a special panel, “Radicals of Pitzer College.”
Years before #Blacklivesmatter came into being, one of our professors took on the issue of police brutality directly. Another organized farmworkers with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Today, faculty are combating the Prison Industrial Complex and fighting for human rights locally and globally.
This panel takes a deep dive into Pitzer’s radical roots and activism through time. We are inviting a diverse set of faculty to discuss what it means to be a scholar-activist and to explore different models for doing activist work. What has activism entailed on campus and off? In prisons and local communities? What are the ethical responsibilities of activist intellectuals? How have scholar-activists restructured research, teaching, and action on our campus? We invite students, alums, families, and fellow staff and faculty to discuss the tension activism produces within academic work.
Warning: Your Pitzer student may become one of these radicals!
