Lecture by David J. Peterson
Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11 am
Benson Auditorium, Pitzer College
In this talk, David Peterson will discuss the art of conlanging, or language creation. The intentional invention of language is a practice which goes back to the 12th century, though due to the popularity of shows and films that make use of created languages (HBO’s Game of Thrones, James Cameron’s Avatar, the CW’s The 100, etc.), the craft has become more visible than ever. Highlighting some of his work in TV and film, David will explicate what precisely is required to create a realistic, naturalistic language.
