Office of Communications » Wind Event Update Wind Event Update On Friday night, January 21, Claremont experienced what the City is calling an unprecedented wind event that tore down trees all around town and knocked out electricity in many neighborhoods. Sadly, Pitzer lost a large tree on the Mounds, and two trees were uprooted in front of Broad Center. On Saturday, water on campus was shut off for a couple of hours while a water line was repaired. We’re so thankful no injuries have been reported, and we’re so grateful to everyone—from our staff to City of Claremont and utility workers—who have been working around the clock to make vital repairs and clean up our beautiful campus. The City of Claremont says recovery efforts in the area may take several weeks, and we are thinking of our many neighbors who continue to be affected. Many thanks to Pitzer students for their incredible patience and understanding over the weekend. In true Pitzer fashion, they are exploring sustainable ways to repurpose the beloved fallen trees on our campus.
