Claremont, Calif. (February 20, 2017)—Pitzer College sophomore Maddie Kauahi ’19 won the 100-yard freestyle with the fastest SCIAC time of the year on the final day of the SCIAC 2017 Swimming and Diving Championships. Both the Sagehens men’s and women’s teams came in second at the SCIAC Championships behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The Sagehens Men’s Swimming and Diving team came in only 8 points out of first place, trailing CMS 1022 to 1030. The Sagehens and CMS dominated the championships, with Redlands following in third place with 558 points. The Sagehens Women’s Swimming and Diving team also finished in second place behind CMS, 993 to 1289.
With her win, Kauahi qualifies for an NCAA B-Cut, and her time of 51.17 ranks as one of the top-15 performances this year in NCAA Division III. Kauahi’s teammate Sabrina Kwan (PO ’20) won the 200-yard butterfly with an NCAA B-Cut time of 2:04.95.
Since last year, Kauahi has racked up numerous wins and honors, including being named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, earning All-America honors and SCIAC Athlete of the Week.
