Claremont, Calif. (August 24, 2016)—Pomona-Pitzer Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine has been named to the chair of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletic Administrators Committee. The committee is composed of athletic directors and administrators from SCIAC institutions across Southern California.

Irvine became director of Pitzer College and Pomona College’s combined athletic program in June 2015; since then, the Sagehens have won four Conference Championships and finished 34th in the NCAA III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup—the program’s highest finish in 20 years.

“I’m honored and excited to serve the SCIAC conference and Athletic Administrator Committee in this leadership role,” Irvine said. “This is a group I admire greatly, and I look forward to the opportunity to help the conference continue to grow and develop.”

Irvine came to Pomona-Pitzer Athletics from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she served as senior associate athletic director/senior women’s administrator. Prior to Bowling Green, Irvine was the head field hockey coach at Stanford University, where she guided her team to three straight NorPac Tournament championships.

Her first collegiate coaching job was at the University of Iowa, where she played field hockey  and received her master’s degree in health, leisure and sports studies. The England native played three years of field hockey for Loughborough University while earning her undergraduate degree in physical education, sports science and recreational management.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was formed in 1915 when five Southern California institutions combined for the purpose of promoting and governing competition in intercollegiate sports with the fundamental principle of the conference being to encourage the highest ideals of amateur sports in an environment of high academic standards. Today, Pomona-Pitzer and eight other Southern California colleges make up the SCIAC.
