U.S.News & World Report Ranks Pitzer College in Top 20 for Lowest Student Indebtedness

Claremont, Calif. (September 9, 2014)—Pitzer College debuts at #20 in the National Liberal Arts Colleges Least Student Loan Debt at Graduation list in U.S.News & World Report’s 2015 edition of Best Colleges. Out of nearly 1,800 colleges and universities, Pitzer ranks #8 Most Selective Liberal Arts College, #25 Most Selective overall among national colleges and universities and #35 as a 2015 Best National Liberal Arts College.

Pitzer is also named #7 in Most Students Studying Abroad, #14 in Campus Ethnic Diversity, #20 Lowest Acceptance Rate and #20 High School Counselors Rankings. Pitzer College ranked #24 in Average Amount of Need-based Aid Awarded among national liberal arts colleges.

Pitzer College is committed to meeting 100 percent of a student’s demonstrated financial need and strives each year to lower student indebtedness. Pitzer students graduate with an average indebtedness of $18,030 after four years, well under the national average of $29,400 per student at both private and public universities and colleges.

Seven California private universities and colleges are named to the Top 20 Least Debt ranking along with Pitzer: American Jewish University, California Institute of Technology, Pomona College, Scripps College, Stanford University and Thomas Aquinas College.

Since 2002, Pitzer has moved up 35 places from #70 on the U.S.News & World Report annual list of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges.

This year, U.S.News reviewed nearly 1,800 colleges and universities across the country. The rankings are based on several key measures of quality such as graduation and retention rates; assessment of excellence; faculty resources; student selectivity; financial resources; graduation rate performanc­­­­e and alumni giving. Scores for each measure are weighted to arrive at a final overall score. For national universities and liberal arts colleges, the assessment figure represents input from both academic peers (15 percent) and high school guidance counselors (7.5 percent).
