Claremont, Calif. (May 14, 2014)—Pitzer College student-athlete Jacob Yasgoor ’17 has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III West Region Rookie of the Year.

Yasgoor had the top singles record on the Sagehens during the 2014 season, compiling a 17-6 mark while mostly playing in the No. 2 position. He moved up to the No. 1 spot late in the year, and contributed a 6-3, 6-1 win against Texas-Tyler in the NCAA regional semifinals.

In addition to his singles success, Yasgoor also compiled a 7-1 record in doubles on the year. He won the Independent Colleges Doubles title at the Ojai Valley Championships on April 25, teaming with Connor Sutton PO ’15 to knock out the top two seeds in the field in the semifinals and finals.

In the fall Yasgoor got off to a strong start to his collegiate career by reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA West Regionals, upsetting the No. 1 seed in the tournament in the Round of 16.

Yasgoor’s efforts helped the Sagehens climb to as high as No. 10 in the national rankings late in the year and return to the NCAA Tournament after a one-year absence.
