Claremont, Calif. (January 7, 2014)—TIME selected Pitzer College Assistant Professor of Art Tarrah Krajnak’s book South Sound as one of the best photo books of 2013. South Sound was published by Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books in September 2013.
South Sound
Tarrah KrajnakKrajnak began creating the photos in South Sound while she was living and working in a family cabin on Puget Sound in Washington.
“In South Sound, Tarrah Krajnak pairs the family archive and book collection found at the Puget Sound cabin into what Alexander Keefe calls in his essay a ‘speculative riddle’,” wrote Larissa Leclair, photography critic and founder of the Indie Photobook Library. “Beautifully designed by Ampersand with nautical blue stripes on the cover, Krajnak’s photographs within are a point of departure for philosophical musings.”
Tarrah Krajnak joined Pitzer’s faculty in 2013. Born in Peru, Krajnak received an MFA from the University of Notre Dame. She has exhibited nationally and internationally. She is currently represented by Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books. Ampersand will exhibit South Sound at the LA Art Book Fair, which opens at The Geffen Contemporary at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles on January 30.
