Claremont, Calif. (December 13, 2013) — Pitzer College alumni Rhonda Foster ’82 and Ruett Foster ’81 will speak at Remember, Recommit Rally in Los Angeles on December 14, the first anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The rally is being held to remember the victims of Sandy Hook and all victims of gun violence as well as to support efforts to prevent gun violence.
The Fosters, whose 7-year-old son Evan was shot to death in 1997 by an errant bullet, have devoted their lives to violence prevention. They established a facility to provide care and services for children who committed crimes as a result of being separated or estranged from their families. They have worked for more than 30 years to help foster children, juvenile offenders and disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles. Their work has been recognized in numerous ways, including being named Local Heroes by KCET and Union Bank and “Treasures of Los Angeles” by the Central City Association of Los Angeles.
More than 11,126 Americans have been killed by gun violence since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, according to the Los Angeles Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
The Remember, Recommit Rally will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the northwest lawn of the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Fosters expect to speak at approximately 5:45 p.m.
