More than 300 LA County first responders, Campus Safety and Claremont Colleges staff participated in the three-day drill.

Claremont, Calif. (January 18, 2013) Los Angeles County Fire Department, in coordination with Campus Safety, Claremont Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, conducted an active shooter drill on January 16, 17 and 18 at the Scripps College Performing Arts Center. The drill included personnel from several local Los Angeles County Fire Stations, the Claremont Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB – SWAT team). The training included the use of role-players, local ambulance service providers and the Fire Department’s and Sheriff’s Department’s helicopters. The primary focus of the drill was the treatment, handling and removal of casualties from an active shooter scene by Fire Department personnel.

Helicopters hovered over the scene with sheriff department observers and sharpshooters. No live ordnance was used and all weapons in the exercise held blanks only. More than 300 first responder personnel along with several Pitzer College staff and staff from The Claremont Colleges community participated in this three-day exercise.
