Pitzer College Student Joshua Grisé Serves as USA Pavilion Student Ambassador in Korea

Claremont, Calif. (June 13, 2012)—Pitzer College student Joshua Grisé ’15 was named a USA Pavilion 2012 Student Ambassador for the International Exposition Yeosu, Korea held from May 12 to August 12, 2012.

The USA Pavilion selected 40 American college students from 19 states and the District of Columbia to represent the United States as student ambassadors. Serving from May through August, the student ambassadors interact with Pavilion guests in many capacities, including greeting visitors, government officials and dignitaries, and providing administrative, protocol and programming support.

The 2012 student ambassadors will receive one college credit and participate in a course titled Making Culture Visible While Studying Abroad. All student ambassadors are US citizens or permanent residents and are proficient in Korean.

“The USA Pavilion 2012 Student Ambassadors represent the hopeful and determined spirit of the American people,” said USA Pavilion Chief Spokesperson Philippe Cousteau. “Together their unique perspectives and experiences will help bring the United States alive for visitors from Korea and around the globe.”

Featuring the themes of Diversity, Wonder and Solutions, The USA Pavilion will share the voices and hopes of the American people with friends and partners in Korea and around the globe. The US Department of State partnered with explorer, environmentalist and social entrepreneur Philippe Cousteau Jr. to design and operate the Pavilion, a 12,000-square-foot exhibition space filled with exhibits and programs that represent the unique and diverse nature of America’s ocean environments and coastal communities.

More than 100 countries and international organizations along with eight million visitors are expected to participate during the three month international expo, which is themed “The Living Ocean and Coast.”
