Erik Munzer ’13 Wins Athletic Excellence Award

Claremont, Calif. (May 9, 2012) — Pitzer College student Erik Munzer ’13 won the Athletic Excellence Award for two-sport athletes at the Pitzer-Pomona Athletic Department’s 25th annual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet held last week.

Munzer is a starter on both the baseball and soccer teams, playing center fielder and center back, respectively. He helped both teams to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships his first year and has earned All-SCIAC honors in both, including first-team accolades in soccer this fall.

Munzer was an All-West Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association last spring and is hitting .338 with 33 RBI and a team-high 12 stolen bases this spring. As a soccer captain, he helped a young Sagehen team qualify for the SCIAC Tournament with a third-place finish, despite often starting alongside three freshmen on the back four.
