Claremont, Calif. (April 23, 2012) — Pitzer College has selected Associate Professor of Media Studies Ming-Yuen S. Ma and Assistant Professor of Political Studies Rachel VanSickle-Ward as the College’s Scholars-in-Residence for the 2012-13 academic year.
In fall 2012, Rachel will teach a seminar entitled “The Battle over Birth Control: Gendered Dimensions of the Contraception Policy Debate.” In spring 2013, Ming will teach a seminar called “Topics in Sound Culture: Soundscape.”
The Scholars-in-Residence Program awards two faculty members a semester with a reduced teaching load so they can focus on their research. In addition, each scholar offers a seminar-style course centered on their research during the semester of the award. This is the third year Pitzer has expanded the program to include one junior faculty member and one senior faculty member.
