Claremont, Calif. (February 29, 2012) — Pitzer College congratulates students awarded Teach For America fellowships for fall 2012: Betsy Diaz ’12, Stephanie Migdail ’12, Christopher Peck ’12, Alyshia Silva’12, Laura Silverberg ’12, Sarah Surrey ’12, Amelia Troutman ’12 and Elisha Whitman ’12.
Diaz is a double major in neuroscience and psychology and will teach in Baltimore, MD.
Migdail, an English & world literature major and economics minor, will teach in Las Vegas, NV.
Peck is a psychology major and will teach in Hawaii.
Silva is an environmental analysis major and will teach in Memphis, TN.
Silverberg, a double major in environmental studies and anthropology, will teach in Chicago, IL. She was also selected as an Amgen Fellow—a fellowship given to 50 math/science majors across the country annually—and will receive additional funding, technology and resources for her classroom.
Surrey, a double major in Spanish and English & world literature, will teach in Newark, NJ.
Troutman is a psychology major and will teach in Chicago, IL.
Whitman, a double major in Africana studies & international/intercultural studies, will teach in Los Angeles, CA.
Teach For America is a national teacher corps of outstanding recent college graduates, graduate students and professionals who commit two years to teaching in underprivileged rural and urban schools. This year more Pitzer students were awarded Teach For America fellowships than ever before.
