Pitzer College Alumnus Jacob Caron ’11 Signs With Utah Blaze

Claremont, Calif. (November 2, 2011) — Pitzer College alumnus Jacob Caron ’11, who holds numerous Sagehen offensive records, has been assigned to the 2012 Utah Blaze roster. Caron will add depth to the quarterback position for one of the most potent offenses in the Arena Football League in 2011.

“We are excited to sign Jacob Caron to compete for our quarterback position,” said Head Coach Ron James. “He is an athletic quarterback with a strong arm and great potential. We expect him to come in and be a great addition to our talented offense for the 2012 season.”

Caron currently serves as the quarterback coach for Pitzer-Pomona after having a standout career behind center for the Sagehens over the previous four seasons. Caron set records for career total yardage (9,225), passing yardage (8,408), and completions (651) during his four years. As a senior, he earned the Daley Award, which recognizes outstanding athletic achievement. He ended his career as the number 10 ranked passer in NCAA Division III football.

“The beautiful surroundings of Salt Lake City and the professionalism of the organization made choosing to play for the Blaze an easy decision,” said Caron. “Utah has a fine coaching staff that is extremely helpful and supportive. After speaking with various staff members, I am looking forward to being a part of the team and helping guide them to victories. This is my first opportunity to play professional football and I have all the excitement in the world to play for this classy organization.”

Caron was named to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-American Football Team and the 2010 SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year. He was named the MVP of the SCIAC, the first player in school history to earn that distinction. He was also the MVP of the NCAA Division III Tazon de Estrellas All-Star game in Mexico.

In addition to his senior year accolades, Caron was also an All-SCIAC selection as a sophomore and junior, while earning team MVP honors both seasons. He was also the SCIAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

Jacob Caron majored in sociology at Pitzer College.
