A Message from President Trombley on the Tucson, Arizona Shooting

Dear Friends,

Our nation experienced a terrible tragedy over the weekend with a shooting in Tucson, Arizona that resulted in the death of six people and thirteen injured, including US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords ’93, a Scripps College alumna, who was shot in the head and remains in critical condition.

Congresswoman Giffords, who double majored in sociology and Latin American studies, took several classes at Pitzer College and was well loved by the Claremont Consortium.

She is the first woman to represent Arizona in Congress in more than a decade. She served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2001 to 2003 and the Arizona State Senate from 2003 to 2005.

For more information about Congresswoman Giffords, please read a message from Scripps College President Lori Bettison-Varga.

Please join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to her, her family and all of the victims and families affected by this unconscionable tragedy.

Sincerely,

Laura Skandera Trombley
President
