Pitzer College in Top 10 in Washington Monthly‘s 2010 College Guide Service Category

Claremont, Calif. (October 4, 2010) — Pitzer College ranks in the top 10 in Washington Monthly’s 2010 College Guide. The College ranked fourth in “service staff, courses and financial aid support” and fifth in “community service participation and hours served” among liberal arts colleges nationwide.

Pitzer students donate more than 100,000 hours of community service annually. Last year, Pitzer College Community Engagement Center (formerly Center for California Cultural and Social Issues) was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of its exemplary community service.

Washington Monthly ranked the colleges by a combined measure of the number of students participating in community service and a total number of service hours performed, both relative to school size and combined measure of the number of staff supporting community service, relative to the total number of staff; the number of academic courses that incorporate service, relative to school size; and whether the institution provides scholarships for community service.
