Message from President Trombley on Passing of Emeritus Professor Jack Merritt

August 19, 2010

Dear Friends,
I write to you today to share with you the sad news of Emeritus Professor Jack Merritt’s passing.

Professor Merritt joined Pitzer College and the Joint Science Department in 1966 and remained actively involved in the Claremont Colleges well beyond his retirement in 1983. Professor Merritt was much admired as a teacher of physics by his students and is very fondly remembered by the faculty and staff of Joint Science and of Pitzer College.

Private services are being arranged by his family and his ashes will be divided between Santa Rosa Island and the summit of Mount Baldy. Condolences may be sent to his son Mark Merritt at 330 W. Radcliffe Dr., Claremont, CA, 91711.

Sincerely,
Laura Skandera Trombley
President
