Pitzer College Receives Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Grant

Claremont, Calif. (August 11, 2010) — Pitzer College received a Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) grant for its Gateway to Exploring the Mathematical Sciences Program.

The Gateway to Exploring the Mathematical Sciences Program brings 50-70 middle school students from surrounding communities to the Pitzer College campus once a month to provide them with important exposure to interesting topics in mathematics.

The MSRI is one of the world’s preeminent centers for research in mathematical sciences and has been advancing mathematical research since 1982. The Institute has been funded primarily by the National Science Foundation with additional support from other government agencies, private foundations, academic, corporate sponsors and individual donors.
