Claremont, Calif. (March 23, 2010) — Pitzer College student Simon Lee ’11 was awarded a Skidmore Scholarship to attend the 2010 New York State Summer Writers Institute.

Lee, who majors in English and world literature with a minor in art history, also tutors at the Pitzer College Writing Center. He is excited by the opportunity to improve upon his craft this summer and to work with two well-respected authors, Mary Gaitskill and Amy Hempel.

Lee plans to pursue a PhD in 20th century literature in hopes of becoming a college professor.

The New York State Writers Institute was established in 1984 by award-winning novelist William Kennedy. Undergraduate and graduate students from across the world attend the two or four-week long creative writing workshops in fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
