Pitzer College Alumna Joins the US House Education and Labor Committee

Claremont, Calif. (February 8, 2010) — Andra Belknap ’09 was appointed press assistant to the US House Education and Labor Committee by its chair, George Miller (D-CA).

The Committee on Education and Labor oversees federal programs and initiatives dealing with all levels of education from preschool to higher, as well as, workforce initiatives aimed at strengthening health care, job training and retirement security for workers.

Prior to joining the Committee, she interned for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, focusing on climate change issues.

Belknap was involved with the Obama presidential campaign in 2007 and was a member of Obama’s Florida communications team during the 2008 general election.

While at Pitzer, Belknap facilitated a childhood nutrition initiative and taught English classes in Oaxaca, Mexico.

She graduated with a degree in political studies and a minor in Spanish.
