Film by Pitzer College Professor to Screen at the Berlin Film Festival

Claremont, Calif. (January 29, 2010) — Pitzer College Professor Alexandra Juhasz will screen her latest feature film, The Owls, at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival. Juhasz teaches media studies at Pitzer.

The Owls, co-produced by Juhasz and directed by Cheryl Dunye, is a generational anthem for “older, wiser lesbians.” The film follows the lives of four women who, approaching middle age, are caught between a culture that still has no place for them and a younger generation of lesbians who are indifferent to their contributions. It is a funny, humane look at the bonds of friendship that restrain and dreams that remain.

Juhasz and Dunye’s previous collaboration, The Watermelon Woman, was awarded the Teddy Bear at the 1996 Berlin International Film Festival.

Juhasz has made over 15 documentaries and feature films that range from feminist and lesbian issues to teen pregnancy. Her work has screened at the Sundance Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.
